Muscle car enthusiasts, get ready to rejoice! A recently conducted inspection in Oklahoma has revealed the existence of another authentic 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS454 LS5 M22, a rare and highly sought-after model among collectors.
Patrick Glenn Nichols, a renowned expert in the field of muscle car barn finds, was hired to examine the car and shared his findings in a video posted online. According to Nichols, while the original engine is no longer present, the car’s original transmission and Cru 331 open rear axle are still intact. The car has spent a significant amount of time in Arizona’s Tucson area and is now located in Oklahoma.
What makes this particular car stand out, apart from its rarity, is its excellent condition. The car’s body and floors have never been cut up, making it an ideal candidate for restoration. The current paint and body on the car are in great shape, and it was born with a Gobi beige upper and lower.
While there is no build sheet to confirm the car’s exact specifications, Nichols notes that the presence of a 5500 RPM tachometer leads him to believe that it was likely an LS5 model, rather than an LS6. He explains that while this isn’t a foolproof indicator, he owns an LS6 with a similar tachometer, which suggests that the car’s configuration was more likely to be LS5.
Despite the car’s exceptional condition, some work has been done on it over the years, and it appears to have been drag raced at some point. However, the car’s foundation is solid, and there is no rust to speak of. Nichols notes that he expects the car to undergo a full restoration, including some changes such as replacing the incorrect wheels and restoring the original bumper.
The car’s tag, though shiny, is still readable and confirms its build date as the first week of March. The car has a black bucket seat interior with a D55 console and is equipped with dated seat belts. The car’s Arlington Texas red oxide primer is still visible on its floors, giving a sense of its original state.
